  32.      JForth 1.0 first appeared in October, 1986... the
  33.      current version is V3.1.  JForth was developed for the
  34.      Amiga, on the Amiga.  It is of the "super forth"-genre,
  35.      representative of the state-of-the-art in Forth compilers.
  36.  
  37.      This is a demo version of the JForth Professional 3.x
  38.      software development system.  It includes a complete
  39.      JForth interpreter/compiler which is fully-functional
  40.      but limited in the size of executable code it will
  41.      produce.  Also, the demo will NOT create standalone
  42.      programs (the commercial package will).  This demo
  43.      version also offers an "Introduction" which can be
  44.      optionally viewed at startup.
  45.      
  46.      The demo interpreter/compiler includes a disassembler,
  47.      assembler, as well as a source-level debugger.  While
  48.      the demo package does not provide the JForth "include"
  49.      files (similar to C's ",h" files, JForth calls them
  50.      ".j"), MANY are pre-compiled and accessible in the demo
  51.      program.  Similarly, the demo can also call many Amiga
  52.      shared-library functions, as they have been pre-compiled
  53.      for you (the demo package does NOT support adding more...
  54.      the commercial package can call any Amiga library func-,
  55.      tion, even custom libraries).
  56.      
  57.      Additionally, there is a compiled program which
  58.      demonstrates the JForth interface into graphics,
  59.      menus, HAM mode, etc.
  60.      
  61.      There are several source files included, including an
  62.      IFF file viewer, word/line counter and others.
  63.      Additionally, several tutorials are provided for
  64.      users new to Forth and/or JForth.
  65.      
  66.      Also provided is V1.11 of Textra, the user-friendly
  67.      Amiga GUI-based text editor.  This is the same editor
  68.      which accompanies the JForth package and can be
  69.      integrated with JForth (even the demo) via ARexx.
  70.      (Later versions of Textra are available and are
  71.      completely backward-compatible with JForth).

  73.      Finally, as an example of a JForth standalone,
  74.      graphics-based productivity application, Mike Haas'
  75.      1993 "LCD Calculator II" is included.
